Compassionate and collaborative postpartum care and lactation counseling.

Mission Statement

The postpartum period is a very special time deserving of compassionate and non-judgmental guidance and support. A postpartum doula focuses on the needs of both the parents and their newborn. Doulas nurture the parents by offering practical assistance as well as emotional support allowing for a faster recovery and increased confidence to face the ups and downs of parenthood. At Beyond Birth Care, each newborn and parent will be treated as the unique family set they are. Together, we will determine needs, set goals, and collaborate on a care plan that feels comfortable for everyone.

Services

Basic

Postpartum Care - Day time $45/hr, Overnight $50/hr

Postpartum care is flexible and will be tailored to the needs of each family, even as they may change day-to-day. A postpartum session includes a check-in on how the last 24 hours went, formulation of a plan for the session, and can include anything that feels supportive within the home. This can look like lactation support, trouble shooting with feeding and sleeping cycles, time with baby so parents can rest, assistance with after birth healing, organization of supplies, support with infant care, grocery shopping or errands, and simple meal preparation.

All postpartum care includes at least one prenatal visit.

Advanced

Lactation Counseling - $150/hr

Lactation counseling can take many forms and will be tailored to the needs of each family, even as they may change day-to-day. My goal is for you and your infant to have pain free, successful feedings and for you feel confident with your abilities. Each session includes a check-in on how the last 24 hours went, formulation of a plan for the session, and can included anything that supports infant feeding for the parent or baby. This can look like support with latch, positioning, milk supply, milk storage, pumping/hand expression, trouble shooting feeding cycles, bottle feeding, weaning, introducing solids, emotional support and more! Lactation visits can be virtual or in person.

Brittany Sullivan, Certified Postpartum Doula, CLC

Before working in the postpartum and lactation world, I was a teacher and a teacher coach in Philadelphia, Pa. I like to joke that I’ve always worked with children, they just keep getting younger!

Since moving to Long Beach, Ca in the summer of 2019, I have been working as a full-time nanny. It was my experience as a nanny that led me to explore the world of lactation support and postpartum care. I saw that so many families felt they could use more support during the early months of their child’s life. I was lucky enough to support one such family as a nanny for their toddler and newborn. It was a great privilege to be there the day they brought their second child home for the hospital and start providing care right away.

In January of 2023, I became a Certified Lactation Counselor and have since worked as a facilitator for LATCH on IE: Lactation, Assessment, Training, Competencies for Hospitals and supported two lactation clients.

In June of 2023, I completed training as a full spectrum doula with Doula Training International and became a Certified Postpartum Doula in September of 2023. I decided to focus on lactation and postpartum because I have seen a great need for support in these areas and believe that I can provide compassionate and collaborative care and guidance.

Testimonials

Maggie H.

“Brittany is amazing! I was a few months into my breastfeeding journey and suddenly having supply issues. I was really stressed and not sure what to do. Brittany took the time to listen to me and asked all the right questions so that together we were able to get to the root of the problem. She was full of helpful advice and suggestions, and she had so many great ideas that I implemented right away. I left our session with a plan and felt so confident, I was no longer feeling anxious. She made me feel so much better, and things started to turn around for me and my baby soon afterwards! I can’t say enough good things about Brittany, she is so knowledgeable, but more importantly she really listened to me without judgement. She wanted to help me reach my breastfeeding goals and collaborate with me on a plan to get there without her own agenda.”

“Brittany’s guidance and advice was a real postpartum lifesaver. Brittany really stands out because she is knowledgable but also very respectful of parents and does not push any agenda or view. She truly meets you where you’re at and offers perspective and advice, but defers to the parents’ goals, wishes, and perspective. Other postpartum professionals I’ve worked with seemed to have their advice/mind made up before the conversation even began. Brittany was just the opposite, which allowed her to be extremely valuable and effective as a coach and caregiver in this important time.”
